Could this couple smile any more?! We first met Michelle and Haines when Michelle was in Ingrid and John’s wedding last October. We were so excited that they also chose us to capture their wedding day.
We were so blessed by this wedding party and the family of Michelle and Haines. They were all so sweet and funny and welcomed us right into their group. We felt more like friends than hired hands.
The wedding was at Pretty Place/ Symmes Chapel at the YMCA camp in South Carolina (Near Brevard NC). Michael and I had never shot there and were amazed at the view! It was simply breath taking. There was a beautiful breeze and, even though it was June, it felt amazing up there!
The lighting during this ceremony was a bit of a technical challenge from the back of the ceremony site where Michael generally shoots from. Michelle, Haines and their wedding party stood under the pavilion in the shade. So in order to get them properly exposed as well as the bright back ground of the mountains we had to use 2 off camera flashes. We don’t usually like to use off camera lighting because it can potentially be a distraction during the ceremony but we ok’d it with Michelle and Haines and because NOBODY was looking at us or our flashes (they were looking at that beautiful couple and the beautiful scenery) we totally got away with it.
Lets back up to the beginning of the day! Michelle got ready at a friend’s home in Brevard. I was in love with the “country cottage” type feel of this home. It makes the detail shots all the more fun.
Michelle adjusting her veil. What a beauty!
And this fella can rock a suit!
First look moments.
This stunning bouquet was done by Floressence Flowers
No ceremony decorations needed with a backdrop like that! Just a wreath and a fiddle player. Shout out to the violinist Drayton Aldridge!
That precious moment when the flower girl looses her shoe and Haines (The groom) bends down to put it back on for her… Priceless.
I love that even though there was a first look and Michelle and Haines had already seen each other, she still cried and got emotional. This was the moment she was going to marry her love. We all cried a bit I think! This moment was beautiful.
Haines was a happy man though!
Sweet Mother of the Bride
We loved the ceremony performed by Shelly Webb. She added so much depth and meaning into the message and was such a pleasant person to work with.
Grandparents of the bride.
The reception was in Sherwood Forest… no really. And of course there was a Robin Hood Barn in Sherwood Forest.
We loved the simple elegance of this barn and how Michelle and Haines’ family and friends had decorated it!
One of my favorite touches was the plates. Each and every one was different!
Another favorite detail of the reception! So clever.
Some of our favorite moments were during the toast. “Laughter among tears are my favorite emotion”- Steel Magnolias (movie)
Ok, so I have to give these two fellas a huge shout out! One of the BEST… ok, the BEST cover band I have heard to date. Evan and Dana played everything from Frank Sinatra to Blue Grass to to Hip Hop (Nelly, Sir Mix-A-lot, Rob Base) to dance music (Cotton-Eyed Joe, LMFAO) to Modern Rock. And there were only 2 of them! We were impressed at their ability to keep the dance floor hopping as well as interact with the crowd. They gave us all many laughs especially when they sang “Wait Til He Gets His “Haines” On You” during the garter toss.
Friends and Family held mason jars with candles for the exit. So beautiful!
