Lindsey and Andrew’s Crest Pavilion Wedding!

Lindsey and Andrew’s wedding at the Crest Pavilion on Memorial Day weekend was on one of the prettiest days of the whole year. Even though it threatened rain all day… it never did. It only made for some amazing clouds and beautiful sunsets.

We love a good military wedding as well.  Both the bride and groom and A LOT of their bridal party were in the Navy! Thank you all for your services to our country.

Without further ado here is a bit about Lindsey and Andrew and more about their wedding from their lips!

A bit about Lindsey-

Lindsey is from Wake Forest, North Carolina. She graduated from the US Naval Academy in 2010. She spent 6 years in the Navy as a Naval flight officer for both the P-3 and P-8 aircraft. She just got out of the Navy this May – the day before her wedding! She is a thyroid cancer survivor and is 3 years in remission.

A bit about Andrew-

Andrew is from Yardley, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Drexel University in 2008. He did ROTC for his last 2 years of college. He is also a Naval Flight officer. He is currently instructing students at Patrol Squadron 30. He will graduate this October from UNC Chapel Hill with his MBA.

How did you meet?

We met working in the same squadron, VP-45 in Jacksonville, FL. Andrew had been in the squadron for 2 years before Lindsey checked in.

Describe your first date?

We had been friends for a while before we ever started dating. I don’t know if we had a “first” date exactly because we hung out together as friends a lot. We were hesitant to date because we worked together but decided to give it a try.We started dating right before we were both supposed to deploy to Japan in November of 2012 but Lindsey found a nodule in her neck that turned out to be cancer and she missed the entire deployment. We spent the first 6-7 months of dating across the world while Lindsey recovered from thyroid cancer. When Andrew helped Lindsey through this point in her life while dealing with the stress of deployment she knew he was a keeper! 🙂

How long have you been together?

4 years this November!

What are your favorite hobbies and activities to do as a couple?

We enjoy walking our dogs around our neighborhood, going to the dog park, seeing movies, trying new restaurants, cooking together, and traveling.

Who popped the question and HOW?

For Andrew’s birthday in July 2014 Lindsey surprised him with tickets to see his favorite football team (Dallas Cowboys) play in Dallas! We went to Dallas for the game that September. Our first night there Andrew made reservations at The French Room inside the Adolphus in Downtown Dallas. Earlier in the day he suggested that we try to find a horse and carriage before dinner to get a quick tour. He threw Lindsey off, though, by acting lazy while we were supposed to get ready to the point we almost “skipped” the carriage ride. But we went down to find one and had luck. Toward the end of the tour we stopped at Pioneer park and our driver suggested we walk up a path to a waterfall in the park. Andrew told Lindsey to take a picture of the waterfall and when she turned around he was on one knee! The carriage ride was prearranged and Andrew was just trying to throw me off by acting lazy that afternoon!

How long had you been dating when you became engaged?

We had been dating for a year and 10 months before we were engaged.

How long after you were engaged did you get married?

We had actually gotten married in December of 2014 before Lindsey had to put in for new orders. To request to stay stationed together you have to be married. We knew we wanted to have a big wedding for everyone to attend, so that was about a year and a half after we were engaged.

Why did you pick Asheville and The Crest?

Lindsey grew up in NC, and loves the Mountains. Asheville is a beautiful city with so much to do so we knew it would be a great place to have our wedding. When we got married in 2014 it was on the beach so we thought the mountains would be fun! We toured several spots in Asheville but loved the view at Crest and all of the twinkle lights in the wood beamed ceiling.

What adjective best describes your spouse on your wedding day?

Andrew – Elated. From the moment he turned around at our first look he had the biggest smile that didn’t go away the entire day. The pictures of it melt my heart!!

Lindsey – Euphoric.  In all the prep photos Lindsey looks excited and joyful. I can just tell she’s thinking about our future and the family we want to have together.

What tangible detail of your wedding day did you love the most?

The presence of love and family in the room with us that day. To have so many great people travel for our big day.

How many guests did you invite to the wedding? Which of you had more guests at the wedding, you or your spouse?

We had 79 guests at our wedding. We aren’t sure who had more guests! So many of our guests were friends we had made together in the Navy!

What did guests eat at the reception?

We had both chicken, and steak, with potatoes, salad, vegetables, and rolls. Plus our beautiful cake!

What is the one of the funniest things that happened on your wedding day?

Our flower girl was such a hoot! Her mom and I decided to get her such a poofy dress and my goodness she was cute! Getting her to walk down the aisle by motivating her with m&ms was so funny!

What was your first dance song and why did you pick it?

We danced to Sam Cooke’s “Nothing Can Change This Love.” Andrew had the show “30 For 30” on in the background one day and I heard this song under the commentary and just loved it! I tried to listen between commentary until I picked up enough words to Google it. When we listened to the song in full it was too cute and we decided to use it as our dance song. Very random!

What stood out to you the most when you think of your wedding?

How fun our wedding was for us! I had heard that you are so busy during your wedding that you don’t always get to enjoy it but that was not the case. I remember during our last dance we wished the song would last forever because we didn’t want the night to end. It was the best feeling to have everyone we love the most in one place for one night.
