What if your son is asked to be the ring bearer at a wedding you are photographing? Well, you bring help (my cousin Morgan) and you take lots of photos of his adorable cuteness. (Be prepared for lots of photos of the ring bearer and flower girl in this blog post!)

Michael’s cousin Haley married her Dane last Sunday at Appalachian Farm. She honored us by asking our Ezra to be the ring bearer. I didn’t realize then that this was really a great honor. I just envisioned my shy son clinging to my leg as I tried to shoot the ceremony. Little did I know that with some preparation and talking to Ezra that he would rock it. And, I mean he ROCKED it. I now also realize that not every little boy gets to be a ring bearer in their life time and Ezra loved the experience and was actually excited to walked down the aisle with that gorgeous little flower girl. (Smart boy, my Ezra.) Now, enough of me gushing over Ezra! (I’m one proud mamma!)

I have known Haley for about 10 years now and I love her so much… She and her sweet family. I feel like they are truly my family and not just Michael’s. We had the awesome opportunity to photograph her sister Heather’s wedding back in April and were equally as excited to photograph Haley’s wedding this October. Side note… 2 girls getting married in ONE year… their parents David and Cindy, I must say, did very well with it! Both Heather and Haley’s weddings were so different but so unique to each girl. I loved that. They are true to themselves and their weddings displayed just that.

I am proud of Dane too. He really does hate having his photo taken… ya’ll… like, really hates it. Michael and I quickly found out that candid moments were the way to get a photo of his good natured personality. He was a good sport about the photos and rocked them.

Well enough on that from us! Here is a bit more about the wedding from Haley and Dane!

A bit about Haley: I am a State Trooper and a part time Paramedic/Firefighter. I grew up in Western, NC. I love hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and anything outdoors!

A bit about Dane: I am a police officer with the City of Asheville. I grew up in Churchville, NY (which is nothing like the city and far away from it!) I love hunting, hiking, camping, fishing, and Haley.

How did you meet? I was working for Buncombe County EMS at the time and we would see each other on calls. We also had a lot of mutual friends. We eventually became friends and started dating.

Describe your first date? Sushi dinner at Umi in Hendersonville and ice cream on main street.

How long have you been together? 3 years

What is your favorite hobbies and activities to do as a couple? Hiking, hunting, camping, playing with Tucker, and traveling.

Who popped the question and HOW? Dane did! He took me hiking at Dupont State Forest and I complained the entire time because my legs hurt from my workout that morning. Ooooppps… Haha! He took me in front of High Falls and told me to take some pictures of the falls and he was behind me. He said my name and I turned around and he was on one knee and popped the question. I cried, he had to tell me to get the ring and then Tucker almost knocked him off the rock into the river. It was sweet and comical!

Why did you pick Appalachian Farm Weddings as your venue? It fits us perfectly. Dane used to work on a farm in NY and we wanted a laid back country wedding.

What adjective best describes your spouse on your wedding day?

Dane about Haley – Perfect!

Haley about Dane – Handsome!

What tangible detail of your wedding day did you love the most? Dane – The wooden signs Haley made with the burning tool. Haley – The cool games Dad made and the cake topper

How many guests did you invite to the wedding? Which of you had more guests at the wedding, you or your spouse? Probably over 300 but only about 175-200 were able to come. It was pretty even, we both have large blood families, large work families, and a lot of mutual friends!

What did guests eat at the reception? BBQ, Slaw, and Beans by Steve Roberson who is a family friend through the fire department.

What is the one of the funniest things that happened on your wedding day? Ezra and Ava picking grass during the ceremony and filling the petal bucket up! I couldn’t see it but I kept seeing Dane snicker and was wondering why!!

What was your first dance song and why did you pick it? “When You Say Nothing At All” by Allison Krauss, Dane picked it and said that it describes our relationship.

What stood out to you the most when you think of your wedding?

Dane – All the great family and friends

Haley – All of our awesome family and friends

What is on your “bucket list” to do together as a married couple? Travel ALOT!!! Especially to Alaska. And go on a Moose and Elk hunt together

As an Asheville photographer, photographing at Craggy Gardens has always been unpredictable when it comes to weather. If there is even a few clouds in the sky Craggy can often be in a thick fog. Which of course ruins the amazing views it offers.

Amanda, Jeff, and I thought we would have luck because, in Asheville, there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky. But as soon as I got close to Craggy we discovered it was in a fog. We decided to trek on anyway and see if it would clear up. Boy!! Am I glad we did.

This shoot really stretched me… in a good way. The fog came and went in an eerie sort of way and it. was. awesome! The sun would peak through every once in a while causing some incredible light to shine through the fog. There would only be about three minutes to shoot before the sun would disappear and the fog would consume us again. Or other times it would be clearing and the fog would just show up causing the trail to look like something from a setting in Scotland.

As I was editing this session last night Michael looked over my shoulder and said “This couple has great chemistry.” It was true even though at first Amanda and Jeff said they felt incredibly awkward. This made them giggle and laugh a lot. Which, of course, made the photos ROCK. So bring on that awkwardness Amanda and Jeff. 😉

Hanging out with this awesome couple was great. I got to hear a bit of their story during our great adventure together. They had a small courthouse wedding last July but dressed back up in their wedding attire for this session. We call these sessions “Rock the Frocks” since not everyone wants to “Trash the Dress”. She will wear her dress again for a small family “To Do” later on in October so we were careful to keep everything crispy clean!

Congrats to Amanda and Jeff as they begin this new chapter in their lives.

I have to brag on my husband, Michael, and his ability to capture awesome photos of the fellas. He had the opportunity last night to photograph an Asheville senior photography session with his cousin Ty! I had no doubt he would rock it because of how his shots have been coming out lately with our grooms and groomsmen.

Ty is such a handsome young man too, so photogenic. He also choose to bring things that mean a lot to him to have for the photos. Ty loves his grandmother’s farm, his dog, his truck (which Michael joked was his current girlfriend), rifle competition, and bow hunting! There is a ton of personality in the photos.

Congrats to Ty for making it (almost) through High School! We are excited to see where life leads you.
