Bethany and Jackie were married last November at the chapel at Montreat College. We had the great honor of photographing their big day. We love Bethany’s sweet family and have now photographed both her and her sister’s weddings. Just like Amelia and Patrick did a “rock the frock”, Bethany and Jackie did one as well!

I enjoyed getting to know Bethany and Jackie better as we traveled to and from our mountain paradise location. Bethany and Jackie met while playing co-ed softball. They weren’t even on the same team. However, Bethany’s team was going to be one person short so one of her team members called Jackie and asked him to fill in. Bethany instantly caught Jackie’s eye. And I have no doubt why! She is a beauty and has some of the coolest hair I have ever seen.

I love this couple’s adventurous nature. These photos say it all!

If I were a wedding critic I would describe this wedding as “Simple, yet elegant. Full of sentimental, beautiful moments and hilariously fun!”

Michael and I met Kayleen and Rob when they hired us for their wedding. After I photographed their engagement session they wanted to meet the whole family so we all went out to dinner one night. Since then we have become friends with this amazing couple and have gotten to see them more often. When it came time for their big day we knew them on a much more personal level and it made the day much more meaningful to us. Knowing a person’s story always has this effect. At one moment Rob made us stop shooting. He made Michael, Kayleen, and I get in a group hug and made us take in the moment. He told us how much he appreciated our friendship and our service to them. He couldn’t imagine having any other person there sharing in their day. What a thought! That meant the world to us to be that loved and appreciated.

I love this couple’s passion for life. They know how to be so sincere and how to cut loose and have fun too! I never realized how big of a “ham” Rob was. (note the garter photos) Kayleen just laughed at him and joined in. It wasn’t a hard task to capture the emotional or funny shots at this wedding. They happened ALL day long.

Another thing that made this day so special was the weather. It was dark skies and rainy when we showed up and we all were praying for the weather to break. Really praying! And just before the ceremony the clouds began to part revealing blue sky. NO RAIN! At that point we still weren’t sure if their would be a pretty sunset. Grand Highlands Venue is known for their spectacular sunsets. I looked at Michael at one point in the reception and told him to start praying for a sunset because I knew how much Kayleen and Rob wanted one.

God granted us a sunset. One of the best I have ever seen. I told Kayleen and Rob to take in God’s gift. As I was walking away to give them that moment I turned around and grabbed this shot of them soaking it in.

Carly Pallock did a fantastic job on Kayleen’s makeup! Ashton Silvers did Kayleen’s hair, and trust me it took a while to do all those curls! Kayleen made an absolute stunning bride!

  • Rachel Rice - These are wonderful!

  • Rhonda Duncan - Absolutely Beautiful!!!!!

  • Jerri Szelewa - I am Kayleen’s great-aunt and I have to say, these are the most beautiful pictures I’ve ever seen.

Michael and I have never photographed a “vineyard” wedding before this one. We have always been jealous of the vineyard weddings out in California that we see from other favorite photographers. Emily and Matt gave us that chance with their wedding at the lovely Childress Vineyard in Lexington, NC. We adored this vineyard and it’s charm.

The vineyard also allowed for a different perspective during the ceremony. Emily walked down a stair case in front of her guests and groom instead of from behind and down an aisle. It was a very special moment as we all gazed at her loveliness and smiles as she walked toward her groom.

The Ceremony was especially special to me. The minister Tom Trooger shared a great story from the heart and it really hit home. I love it when there is a lot of wedding sentiment!

Emily and Matt met at college 6 years ago. Since then Emily has become a pediatric nurse and Matt has been attending UNC Asheville. They both love martial arts and I love how they incorporated this into their wedding day by having their guests sign their GI instead of a guest book. Touches like this make weddings unique to each bride and groom.

We are so grateful to know this couple and that they allowed us to share in their day!
