Luke + Laura’s Asheville Wedding!

Luke and Laura were SUCH a joy to be with and around. We adored their personalities and their genuine kindness was admirable. They welcomed us as part of their day just like we were family.

When thinking about what to write about for their blog, we thought we would let them speak for themselves about their lives and wedding day! Here is a bit more from them and their gorgeous wedding at the Biltmore Forest Country Club!

How did you meet? Two friends invited us separately on a bike ride around Atlanta. We biked from the city to a place called Stone Mountain, hiked the mountain, and then biked back. We hit it off, and the rest is history.

A bit about Luke: Luke grew up with his brother (and best man) Nate in Atlanta Georgia. He studied Environmental Engineering and played baseball as a pitcher at Johns Hopkins, and returned to Atlanta to get his PhD in Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech. He is currently doing post-doctoral research at Harvard.

Who popped the question and HOW? Luke popped the question. At the end of a great day walking Boston’s Freedom Trail under a gorgeous April Fool’s Day sunset at the USS Constitution.

A bit about Laura: Laura grew up alongside her three sisters in Charlotte, North Carolina. She studied Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech, recently got her MBA from Harvard, and currently works as a management consultant for Deloitte. She loves to run marathons and travel.

What tangible detail of your wedding day did you love the most? Luke loved Laura’s dress. Laura loved the framed photos of family on the piano at the reception.

What are your favorite hobbies and activities to do as a couple? Bike rides, long runs, playing and listening to music, experimenting in the kitchen.

What adjective best describes your spouse on your wedding day? Resplendent (Luke’s word for Laura). Happy (Laura’s word for Luke)

Describe your first date? Equally active. We went for a run along the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta, got some delicious pizza, then met friends at a jazz bar.

Why did you pick Asheville and Biltmore Forest Country Club? It’s one of our favorite places to visit and we wanted to show it off to our friends and family. Asheville is also a good halfway point between Laura’s hometown (Charlotte, NC) and Luke’s (Atlanta, GA).

What is the one of the funniest things that happened on your wedding day? Laura couldn’t get the ring on Luke’s finger during the ceremony! Luckily, we were able to squeeze it on after leaving the church.

How long have you been together? Around five years.

How many guests attended the wedding? 235

What was your first dance song and why did you pick it? Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way.” We wanted our first dance to be a unique, modern classic.

What did you and your guests eat at the reception? Salmon, steak, salads, mac & cheese bar, cake
What was the flavor of your wedding cake? Carrot cake and vanilla almond cake with raspberry filling

What stood out to you the most when you think of your wedding? It was so special seeing those we love, from so many different walks of life, in one place.

What is on your “bucket list” to do together as a married couple? We don’t have a defined “bucket list,” but whatever we end up doing, we know that it will be better together.
