Kathy and Dave’s wedding at Burntshirt Vineyard this past weekend was so much fun. Michael and I were honored to be a part of it. This was our first wedding at this beautiful venue and its always a joy to photograph in a vineyard setting.
Here is their story and a few details about their wedding…
A bit about Kathy – Kathy graduated from the University of Florida with a Masters of Science. Kathy is an Athletic Trainer for Atrium Medical Center and works at one of the largest high schools in Ohio. She collaborates with the medical team and manages the return of athletes to their sport after an injury. She is passionate about helping people and outside of athletics her other passion is skincare in which she is a Rodan + Fields Independent Consultant. She has run two full marathons and enjoys being active. She also enjoys boxing as an incredible stress reliever!
A bit about Dave – Dave is a graduate of Miami University and attended grad school at Georgetown University in DC. After working for the Central Intelligence Agency he transitioned to private industry. He currently manages a private equity fund with three other partners and also trades equities, options, and other financial derivatives. Dave enjoys all types of fitness and is an avid sports fan of the English Premier League. He adores cycling and the annual Tour de France.
How did you meet? Dave’s son Jack brought us together with his numerous injuries during his HS sports career. Kathy was Jack’s athletic trainer and was around for all of Jack’s sporting events. During Jack’s senior year we started chatting more before and after games and decided to grab a drink in March of 2011. We set up our first date over that drink and the rest is history.
Describe your first date? We decided to go to a Cincinnati Reds game for our first date. We had dinner and margaritas at Nada before watching the hometown Reds play Dave’s team, the Nationals. We watched the Friday night fireworks after the game and stayed out late talking and getting to know each other.
How long have you been together? 4 years
What is your favorite hobbies and activities to do as a couple? We both enjoy being active. We love riding our bikes and going to fitness classes together at our gym. We enjoy traveling and trying local restaurants.
Who popped the question and how? Dave popped the question. He asked me to meet him at the first place we met for a casual drink, Stonecreek Restaurant in Montgomery, OH. We go back there for birthday’s, anniversaries, New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day, and any special occasion throughout the years. Anyway, Dave was sitting at the exact place at the bar that we had our first drink together. We shared about our day and reminisced about our relationship. He slipped a gorgeous ring out of his pocket and asked me to spend the rest of my life as his wife. We met my family for dinner later that night where we got to share our news!
How long had you been dating when you became engaged? Almost 4 years. March 25th engaged. May 11th, 4 year anniversary
How long after you were engaged did you get married? 98 days!!!
Why did you pick Hendersonville and Burntshirt Vineyard? Last summer we visited Asheville. We wanted to go to a vineyard but not the Biltmore so we googled vineyards around Asheville. Burntshirt popped up so I checked out their website. They had a tour starting at 2pm so we left the pool and headed over there. We made it just in time for the tour and stayed for a tasting. After loving the wine we purchased a bottle and sat outside on the patio listening to live music for the next 3 hours. We fell in love with this place the first time we came. It’s almost destiny that now we can call it “our place.”
What adjective best describes your spouse on your wedding day? Dave says Kat was joyful and stunning. Kat says Dave was dapper and distinguished.
What tangible detail of your wedding day did you love the most? That’s a tie between our guest barrel and the knot we tied during the ceremony.
How many guests did you invite to the wedding? We invited 120. 76 guests made the trip.
Which of you had more guests at the wedding, you or your spouse? Kathy had more guests in attendance. I have a very large family on both sides.
What did guests eat at the reception? The guests chose from beef tenderloin or chicken breast stuffed with local apples and leaks. Each dish was served with sunset whipped potatoes, green beans, carrots, and summer squash.
What is the one of the funniest things that happened on your wedding day? Dave (not an Ohio State fan) reluctantly tried O-H-I-O during “Hang on Sloopy” during the reception and was laughed off the dance floor.
What was your first dance song and why did you pick it? We danced to John Legend’s ‘All Of Me.’ When this song first came out the lyrics really spoke to me. “Give your all to me, I’ll give my all to you.”
What stood out to you the most when you think of your wedding? I smiled the whole night! The next day, my face hurt from smiling for 8 hours straight. Everyone mingled with people they didn’t know and met someone new! The end of the night’s “Sweet Caroline” circle was AMAZING!! We were surrounded by love! Simply stated, the people that celebrated with us in a place that we love made this weekend unforgettable.
